Impact of Maculay Education in Indian Society
Schools, colleges, exams… Are they the right way to instill education in the mind of children? Last time, I heard a great man saying “Education is training the mind to think and not just mugging up facts”. The scene of Maculay education is very different from the scene of education or knowledge after bringing in Maculay education.
I believe in Abundance..There is enough for everyone in this world. This will lead to peace and prosperity rather than competition and hatredness. Let’s look back the scene for the last two generations. We have been so engrossed in securing marks and passing exams in first class or scoring more than 90% rather than the amount of education or knowledge that a person has secured. Where are they right now? What innovations have they done? Nothing. They are just well off in a bank or in a IT company hoping for a month end salary and a year bonus if the company has performed in the market. What value addition did they bring into their life? Suddenly we seem to work harder than our fathers and break down. Where did it all start?
Competition – Maculay education instills competition among student. Somehow, a student should secure 90% or atleast a percentage greater than the usual topper in the school. This has become some sort of a race. Your 10th and 12th percentage defines your career and even your marriage. People don’t have time to ask questions or get their doubt clarified? How many of us know how concept of inductance works in physics? All we know is a coil of wire where we pass electric current creates a magnetic field. We stop with that because it is enough for passing the exam. That’s it..Once the exam is over, then we forget all these.
But ancient Indian education system is not like this. You need to strive hard to understand a concept. First, you make yourself fit to receive the knowledge. How do you make yourself fit? You serve your teacher for a while and then make yourself fit. The reason behind this, you need to be humble to receive Gnyana. Knowledge is not something that you get by paying high tuition fees or going into a good school or college, rather through dedication and hard work and humbleness. Maculay education has ruined us in this aspect. You pay money and you become a master and not a student. Then how do you expect humbleness to receive knowledge? You wont get that. The whole Western idea of education is something that doesn’t fit india. We people are trained to think and we are not lions in a circus doing what a ring masters say.
It’s high time that we change the way that we receive knowledge. This blog is inspired by one of our many discussions in London with one of my best friends Varadarajan. He is one of the guy who inspires with his quest for knowledge and may I wish him all the very best in his quest for knowledge.
Good observation Raghav. The moment we think there is enough for everyone our mind calms down. There is no fight and no struggle. There will be total relaxation and no more stress. In the name of education what we are being actually taught is how to have a stressful mind and an unhealthy body. Why should there be competition at all? Why can't there be innovation without competition? Competition can never be a motivation for the elevation of our society. Knowledge is the key. Knowledge bring us freedom. What better education do we need than the one that brings us freedom?
